Handley and Moore Bracket Clock

8 day striking bracket clock

An 8-day English bracket clock from ~ 1815 by noted makers Handley and Moore.

This 16.5″ lancet-top clock by Handley and Moore has an ebonized pearwood case with brass inlay and brass base surround. The case interior is oak with original seatboard. The front and rear door locks are original and matching. The feet are cast brass. The 8″ convex painted dial is original. The blued steel pierced hands are also original and are of Handley and Moore trademark design.

The heavy brass movement is in good working order. It has 1/8″ thick plates and 5 knopped pillars of period design. The 12″ pendulum is above average quality, has a heavy brass bob with engraving the matches the backplate. A calibration nut and original pendulum hold down are present. The clock has an anchor escapement with curved-groove fusees. The clock strikes the hour on a bell (removed in the photo below). The movement is stamped on the front plate: “Handley and Moore #3079”.

This clock is featured in Cescinsky and Webster’s “English Domestic Clocks” as figure 369.

The clock is located in the USA. Free shipping within the continental United States.
