Atmos clock Reutter

A rare Atmos clock, made by Reutter (inventor) in Feb/March 1932. The full name is Atmos 1 Caliber clock, and the clock bears the number No 1573. The word Atmos is somewhat misleading as this clock works on the basis of temperature variation used to operate the half insulated rocking torsion U-tube pendulum which transmits power to the clock movement with its visible horizontal oscillating torsion pendulum. It has been serviced three times on 14/8/1999, 11/10/2008 and 8/9/2016 without problems apart from cleaning and oiling - with care - and no parts have been replaced.
With the clock is the original instruction leaflet printed on brown card (see picture) which could be even rarer than the clock itself, explaining how the very simple rate adjustment circular knob on the back of the clock should be operated. The dial bears the narrative “Pendule perpetuelle” between the centre and the 12 o’clock position and the maker’s name

beneath the 6 o’clock position.

The case styling is black marble and contrasting white streaked alabaster in an Art Deco style, with a viewing window showing the oscillation pendulum. It sits on a later custom made oak stand supported by three brass adjusting screws to ensure the most favourable horizontal position. The overall size, excluding the wooden stand, is: 22.5 x 26.4 x 12.3 cm as to height, width and depth.
