Carriage Clock Leroy

Height:
12.5 cm handle down
Maker:
Le Roy & Fils Paris
Price:
£395

Good French carriage clock made for the English market, c.1880

The timepiece has a corniche brass case with remnants of gilding. It has bevelled glass panels on all sides so that the movement is almost entirely visible. There is also an oval inspection window in the top through which the later Swiss lever platform escapement can be seen.

The spring-driven eight-day movement has a special keyless winding system, which Le Roy patented. There is also a special button at the back to facilitate setting the hands. The backplate is signed by the maker in the following manner: LE ROY & FILS.

The clock has an enamel dial with a black Roman chapter ring, with five-minute and minute divisions. It is signed as follows:

LE ROY & FILS
13 a 15 PALAIS-ROYAL
PARIS
DEPOT
211 Regent Street
LONDON

The time is indicated by a fine pair of blued steel Breguet hands.
The clock has been restored and is in very good condition.
