Minature lantern clock

Height:
22 cm
Maker:
Dixon Oxon
Price:
£4250

An eighteenth-century mini-lantern clock with an arched dial, made in Oxford c. 1770. The clock is made of iron and brass and of typical design. It has going train and alarm. The going train has verge escapement and a short pendulum, with – strangely enough – pivot suspension at the back. The chapter ring, signature plaque (Dixon Oxon) and alarm disc are silvered. It is attached to the wall with a suspension eye which forms an integral part of the top plate. It has two spikes in the rear drop finials (kind of hoop and spikes).
