Maker:
Watson (London)

Case

Mahogany case with brass border inlay and gadroon top. Brass pine-apple finial, side handles, and feet. All case hardware is original. The case has finely pierced side sound frets. Locks and hardware in good order.

Dial

Original painted convex dial, signed Watson, London. The back of the dial is roughly painted with Watson so that the dial painter would know the correct name.

Hands

Blued steel spade. Repair work was done to the rear side of the minute hand (only seen when the hand is removed).

Movement

Five-pillar twin-fusee eight-day heavy brass 19th C movement with 13 x 18 cm rectangular plates. Hour-rack striking with pull trip-repeat. Strike/silent function above XII on dial. Movement not signed. The number 12010 is dye-stamped to the bottom of the front plate. Original brass/lead ovoid pendulum with rating adjustment. Pendulum hold down screw. The bell hammer has a cushioned face that results in a soft tone to the strike.
